Many women are understandably a little nervous when they come in for nipple/areola tattoo. Their number one concern, ‘Does it hurt?’ In most every case that answer is no. Generally, reconstructive surgical work leaves behind nerve endings that are not what they used to be. However, if sensitivity is an issue, numbing products are available.
I keep the room a balmy, warm temperature during the consultation portion of your appointment as we plan for size and positioning. In unilateral (single breast) tattoo cases, cold air means shrinkage which makes measuring difficult - hence the warm air. After markings are made, colour is custom mixed to match the existing areola. In bilateral tattoo where both breasts are involved, we choose the colour together.
During your first of two appointments, softer colour tones are chosen, tattooed and left to heal. 6 - 8 weeks later we assess the healed result; if we like it, a repeat of the same colour is used, or in some cases an adjustment to the colour recipe is required.
